3 Issues Brainstorming

1) Violence
St. Louis is the most violent city in the United States. What more can I really say? As with every city, there are very nice areas and very bad areas. Our gangsters just happen to be better than all the others. Fixing this problem will take time and quite frankly, there is very little I can do about it in a two month project. The problem itself is interesting but the difference I can make is minimal, thus is my discouragement from pursuing this issue as a topic.

2) The Push aspect of migration
Using Mcleur as an example, poorer families are moving into nicer neighborhoods. Because some people are not comfortable around others of an opposing race, they move away. As the wealthier people move away, they leave the poorer families in an area of inflated prices and luxury that they can no longer afford to maintain. The area then regresses slowly into exactly what the poorer people were trying to escape.

3) Going Green
The environment is not necessarily something that interests me but the ways in which the potential laws will affect out lives does. St. Louis county officials now encourage those who insist on building houses that they do so on a smaller scale and closer together to promote energy and space saving as nicer areas become more populated. I think that the idea is a good one but am not a fan of the idea of the government mandating how we build our homes.
